The Different Parts of Roof

Shawn Michel

The Different Parts of a Roof is important in the maintenance of your home or building and this is because the different parts are used in various activities. These different parts include the Underlayment, the Stabilizers, the Membranes, the External Coverings, as well as the Chimneys and Flues. All of these parts play an important role and therefore, you should know them very well. Without these parts, your roof will start to decay and this will result in the leakages which cause dampness and also create problems for the health of your family. Therefore, it is important that you get these parts installed at the beginning of your roof construction.

The Stabilizers are known as the Main Function of a Roof. They are called the Stabilizers because they act as the support structure for the rafters and the timbers. The Stabilizers prevent the rafters from being damaged by the strong winds or the heavy rains. These are also the materials used in the construction of the eaves troughs. The Stabilizers are often made from steel or aluminum and they are widely used in all types of buildings including homes and business establishments.

The Underlayment is another important component of a roof. It is the most important part of the roof as it provides the necessary structural support to the rafters, the eaves and the roof. The Underlayment is usually made from the polyurethane foam insulation. The different types of Underlayment include the Perimeter, Dormer, and the Skylight.

The Roof Deck is the fourth main function of a roof deck. The Roof Deck plays a major role, as it is designed to prevent water from seeping into the basement. The Roof Deck is often made from the plywood and the different types of insulation. The different materials used for the Roof Deck includes the felt, the bitumen and the shingle. The fifth main function of the Underlayment is to act as a sound barrier. The thickness of the Underlayment will depend upon the type of the construction. There are various types of Underlayment. The best one is the Fiberglass and the other materials are the acrylic and the rubber. The fiberglass is the best option if you want to prevent the sound penetration into your home.

The Roof Vents is an important part of the Underlayment. The Roof Vents protects the attic from the water that seeps in from the roof valleys. In the valleys the water could create problems like the rotting out of the beams and joists. These problems could be avoided with the installation of the Venting. The Vinyl or the PVC roof vented is a great choice.

The other main function of the Underlayment is to protect the main parts of the building from the external pressure. For example, the walls, the ceilings, the floors, the doors and windows could get damaged due to the external pressure. The roof decking is mainly made of the battens, the underlayment and the ventilation system. The battens are the horizontal wooden sheets that connect the rafters and the beams. They are then covered with the Underlayment.

The last but not the least function of the Underlayment is to prevent the moisture to form. The moisture forms when the temperature outside is cold but the temperature inside is hot. This happens because the ventilation pipe in the attic does not dry out completely. The moisture forms at the base and forms a sort of mold when it combines with the moisture vapor from the air and the ventilation pipe.

When the moisture condenses on the surface of the rafters, it will eventually lead to the swelling of the whole attic. If the materials used are not waterproofed, the swelling can expand to a point that it blocks the ventilation pipe. The expansion will cause the dampness in the attic to grow. The expansion can also happen if the materials used are not waterproofed at all. The components that are found inside the attic are often damp and this is one way to explain why they are experiencing mildew.

The Underlayment is the core component of the roof decking. It is made up of polystyrene foams and also has added material like the gravel or the perforated paperboard. It is important that you install the Underlayment between the rafters and the top surfaces of the beams. It is very important that you do this or else the expansion of the dampness inside the attic will cause the moisture to spread and this will lead to the mildew.

The Roof Rafter is the part of the roof that is exposed to the atmosphere and is usually made from wood, vinyl or aluminum. It is composed of a number of plates called the tongue and groove which are #positioned directly under the rafters. The reason why the Roof Rafter is calling low pitch areas is because it is placed at a low angle when compared to the rest of the roof. When you install the Roof Decking, you should make sure that you #position the Rafter at a high angle which will help in the water extraction.
